Surrey

Surrey (/ˈsʌri/ SURR-ee) is a subdivision of the English region of England's South East. Epsom and Ewell, Elmbridge, Mole Valley, Guildford, Runnymede, Reigate and Banstead, Surrey Heath, Spelthorne, Woking, Waverley, and Tandridge, are districts that Surrey is divided into.

There were towns at Ewell, Staines, Kingston upon Thames, Croydon, and Dorking, but the settlement that was important within Surrey's area that was historical during the Roman era was the (part of Greater London now) Southwark London suburb.

The political network in Surrey for two centuries before the Reform Act, was that of the Clandon Park Onslows, a family from the early 17th century established in the county, who, in 1716, were raised to the peerage. When Gatwick Airport was transferred to West Sussex, Surrey's boundaries were altered in 1974.

From Reading, the Line that is Waterloo to Reading selected Ascot, Bracknell, Sunningdale stations, and into Surrey and at Virginia Water's stops that are unskipped calls, Egham, Staines and, before terminating at Waterloo, other stations in Greater London. Along with access to routes of arterial roads including the M3, M23, M25, and Central London rail services, Surrey has proximity to London and to Heathrow and Gatwick airports.

The eastern parts of it may have been held by the Cantiaci, based in Kent, but the area known as Surrey, before Roman times, was occupied probably by the Atrebates, centred at (Silchester) Calleva Atrebatum, in the Hampshire county that is modern. Notably at Godalming (St Peter & St Paul), Guildford (St Mary), Thursley, Stoke D'Abernon, Albury (in Old Albury), Compton, and Witley, Anglo-Saxon elements survive in Surrey churches.

In a game reference at Guildford's Royal Grammar School, in the 16th century, Cricket makes its first appearance in history in Surrey. In the village of Stoke d'Abernon near the village of Cobham, Surrey, Chelsea F.C. practice at the Cobham Training Centre.
